Hi all
It was great to see so many of you for Parent/Teacher interviews on Thursday and Friday. Thank you for the flowers and yummy treats! Thank you for parent feedback and suggestions re homework, spelling tests in English and more Math (ha! that's going to go down well!).
Homework tonight
Math - p. 42, questions 1-7.
Language
We spent some time today, discussing and reviewing Informational writing. We will revise the dates as we are already behind schedule due to Friday's PD day and Monday's Family Day. All's good, so no panicking. Please continue on with your research.
Parent Council
There are a number of fund raisers that have gone home. If you did not receive the following, please let me know and I will send another sheet/flyer/envelope home with your student.
1. Cookie Dough
2. Clairlea Spirit Wear
3. Pizza Lunch forms
To all parents, these fundraisers mean that money comes directly back into our school for a variety of initiatives. Special thanks to parent council for all that you do.
Any parents who were unable to meet last week, please know that you can call the school (416 396 6165) and I will be happy to discuss your student's progress, at any time.

Hi all
We have a very busy week ahead.
Monday - Report cards have gone home today. Inside you will find an interview schedule for myself, Ms Gousis, Mme Boisjoly and Ms Wright. For my homeroom class, if you requested an interview time, your name has been slotted into a time. Interviews are in 10 minute intervals due to the number of interviews that need to happen. Interviews will happen in the gym.
If you did not request an interview but feel you need one, please feel free to add your name to a free time slot and send the form back to me. I will try my best to accommodate your requested time. I will send back a confirmation to you. If you are unable to attend an in-person interview, please note that we can discuss your child's progress during a phone interview. Please let me know.
Tuesday - Our Guidance Counsellor, Ms Sneyd, will be here to do a demo/walk through of My Blue Print - course selection and details regarding High School. I have never completed one of these before and this is strictly a set up and demo for all to see. Periods 3 and 4 in the computer lab.
Wednesday - HPV shots for the Grade 8 girls.
Thursday - Valentine's Day Dance - more details to follow. Parent/Teacher interviews in the evening.
Friday - Parent/Teacher Interviews for the teachers. Students have the day off.

Next Monday is Family Day. There is no school.
A couple of things:
1. Information Writing is in progress. Your work, books, rough drafts must come to school with you. This is not an at-home assignment although some aspects of it will be homework.
2. Use of Cell Phones. I have caught too many of you texting during class time. This is completely unacceptable. Cell phones are not allowed in class. If you bring one to class, prepare to have it taken away from you. There is no mercy rule for this. You are in Grade 8 and you are fully aware of the rules and regulations around cell phone use. They are not to be used as calculators during Math class. End of story.
See you all tomorrow.

Hi all
I'm delighted to hear that many of you have been accepted into SATEC Speciality Programs, Victoria Park IB, Wexford Performance and Visual, Birchmount BEAP and RH King Leadership/Culture programs.
Congratulations to all of you who took the time and initiative to apply to programs and we are so happy for those of you who have received acceptance letters so far. I know that many more letters are in the process of being mailed out.
To those of you who were not accepted, please remember this.
1) these programs have limited enrolment and not everyone can be accepted. Students are applying from all over the GTA for the very limited number of spaces.
2) You are all talented and wonderful. Within your own schools, there will be many opportunities for you to grow academcially and emotionally - those opportunities are not extended to only those who have been accepted to speciality programs. Please remember you have a very rich and rewarding high school experience ahead of you. Be all you can be in the school where you are at.
3) There are many, many opportunities both inside and outside of school for you to grow in any area you are interested. Look far and wide: your community centre, your places of worship, teams and clubs. Volunteer, enrol, participate. Your whole life awaits you.
And remember most of all. You cannot possibly succeed if you don't try. You will not meet with success at every door you knock on. But never, ever be afraid to try.

Hi all
The blog is back in business! Posts will begin again, now that I have updated the Internet version on this computer (I was 6 versions behind)! Thanks to Ron the IT guy who came out on Friday night to update this relic in our classroom.
Now that I have all the Grade 8s back in my class for Math, I am posting Math homework on a daily basis.
Math Homework
Questions 14 & 15, pp. 20 & 21.
If homework is not complete, you will stay in after school on Tuesday to complete it.
Parent/Teacher Interview Forms will go home (or have gone home!) this afternoon. Things are a little different this year. All Intermediate teachers will be conducting interviews in the gym on Thursday evening and Friday morning. Please check off which teachers you wish to see. Because there are over 100 students in the Intermediate division, interview are restricted to 10 mins per family.
Please fill out the form and return by Thursday of this week so we may schedule times.
Thanks
Ms V.
